Jaybird Midtown Review – I was invited to a couple of pre-opening classes at the new Midtown Toronto location, which is now open at Yonge and Briar Hill in a former Gap store. Today I’m reviewing The Burn.
From the outside it’s a muted yellow, and inside it’s cozy, almost sultry. Outdoor shoes come off just past reception, and the unisex change rooms and lockers are upstairs. The amenities are excellent (think Dyson hair dryers), so it’s easy to go straight to work afterwards. The studio is your first right. It’s longer than the Yorkville room, and the middle to the back gets hot and steamy.
I took two Burn classes with Breanna, and they were exactly what I expected: hot, high-energy and sweaty, set to kick-ass EDM and lounge music. The room is lit by candlelight, so if you’re new, sit in the middle where you can see the instructor and the people around you. Two light weights will be waiting at your mat. Your first class includes a free mat cover. After that, you can bring your own, rent one, or buy one at the studio for about $49.
